The Local’s Guide to the Best Proposal Locations in Beaufort, NC

There are few places in North Carolina that feel quite as timeless as downtown Beaufort.

With sailboats gently swaying in Taylor’s Creek, centuries-old live oaks lining historic streets, and waterfront restaurants perfect for celebrating afterward, Beaufort is one of my favorite places for celebrations and proposals on the Crystal Coast.

As a local photographer, I’ve spent countless evenings walking the streets, watching the light change over the water, and learning which locations radiate southern charm.

If you’re planning a proposal, chances are you’ve searched something like “best places to propose in Beaufort, NC” or “proposal locations near Beaufort”. I quickly realized there wasn’t one guide that compared each location, explained the pros and cons, talked about parking, or helped couples choose the spot that best fit the experience they wanted.

So I created one.

Whether you’re dreaming of a quiet waterfront dock, a gazebo overlooking Taylor’s Creek, or a classic stroll through historic downtown before dinner, this guide will help you find the perfect backdrop for one of life’s biggest moments.

1. The Circle at 105 Front Street

Best for iconic waterfront sunsets

If I had to recommend one location to someone visiting Beaufort for the very first time, this would probably be it. On our second date, my husband and I grabbed ice cream downtown, walked to the circle, sat on a bench, and watched the boats pass by. Honestly? The quintessential spot that reminds me why they call it “Beaufort by the Sea.”

At the very end of Front Street, the road stops at a quiet little overlook with benches facing Taylor’s Creek. Looking west, sailboats dot the water while the sun slowly sinks toward the horizon, creating one of the prettiest sunset views in town.

It feels peaceful without being isolated and is still only a short walk from downtown restaurants, making it incredibly easy to transition from your proposal into dinner.

What I Love

  • One of the prettiest sunsets in Beaufort
  • Beautiful open views of Taylor’s Creek
  • Feels tucked away while still downtown
  • Perfect for celebrating with dinner afterward
  • Plenty of room for portraits after the proposal

Things to Consider

  • Benches may already be occupied
  • It stays fairly bright until shortly before sunset
  • Boat traffic is common
  • The circle has passing cars as it’s a dead end to Front Street
  • White rocks line the shore (I believe called Ripraps?) Just wanted to add in case that’s not your style!

πŸ“ Address
The Circle- 105 Front Street, Beaufort, NC 28516

Walk to Downtown
Approximately 2–3 minutes

πŸ…Ώ Parking
Street parking is available along Front Street, with additional public parking just a short walk away. During the busy season, I recommend arriving 20–30 minutes early to allow time to find a spot.

Best For
Couples dreaming of a classic Beaufort waterfront proposal with incredible sunset views over Taylor’s Creek.

2. Fisherman’s Park

Best for couples wanting more privacy

If privacy is your biggest priority, this is my favorite public location in Beaufort.

Because it’s farther from the busiest part of downtown, it naturally sees less foot traffic. The dock stretches out over the water toward Carrot Island, creating a peaceful setting that feels worlds away from Front Streetβ€”even though you’re only a few minutes away.

One thing many visitors don’t realize is that much of the surrounding shoreline is private property, so there tends to be less pedestrian traffic than at other waterfront parks.

What I Love

  • The most private public proposal location in Beaufort
  • Gorgeous sunset views
  • Quiet waterfront atmosphere
  • Open dock overlooking Taylor’s Creek and Carrot Island
  • Plenty of room to soak in the moment

Things to Consider

  • Farther from downtown restaurants
  • Limited parking nearby

  • Popular with kayakers launching nearby

Address
Fisherman’s Park- 920 Front Street, Beaufort, NC 28516

Walk to Downtown
Approximately 15–18 minutes

πŸ…Ώ Parking
Limited parking is available nearby along Front Street. Because this park sits farther from downtown, parking is usually easier than in the heart of Beaufort, but there are fewer spaces overall. Side streets will be your best option!

Best For
A peaceful waterfront proposal overlooking Taylor’s Creek and Carrot Island with fewer crowds than downtown.

3. Grayden Paul Park

Best diverse proposal location

Grayden Paul Park offers the most variety of any proposal location downtown.

Instead of just one scenic viewpoint, you’ll find a gazebo, multiple docks, waterfront benches, landscaped walkways, and beautiful views of sailboats in Taylor’s Creek.

Because there are several different places within the park to propose, it’s easier to adjust based on crowds or lighting that evening.

4. Topsail Marine Memorial Park

Best for dinner immediately afterward

Nestled between some of downtown Beaufort’s favorite restaurants, Topsail Marine Memorial Park is perfect if you want your proposal to naturally lead into dinner.

The brick pathways, benches, and waterfront dock create a classic Beaufort setting without having to leave downtown.

5. Curtis Perry Park

Best Out of Downtown Option

Curtis Perry Park is the closest options to the Beaufort Hotel and Lennoxville Boat Ramp.

While it offers a nice dock and picnic area overlooking the water, it’s also one of Beaufort’s busiest boating access points. On summer weekends you’ll likely encounter kayakers, paddleboarders, trailers, and plenty of activity.

For couples who enjoy that lively coastal atmosphere, it can still be a wonderful choice, but if you’re hoping for a quiet, intimate proposal, I’d probably recommend another location.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the best place to propose in Beaufort, NC?

For the classic Beaufort waterfront experience, I’d recommend either The Circle at 105 Front Street or Grayden Paul Park. If privacy is your priority, Fisherman’s Park is hard to beat. For a variety of settings, Grayden Paul Park offers benches, a dock, and a gazebo.

What time should I propose?

While many people automatically think “sunset,” I actually recommend planning your proposal about 30–45 minutes before sunset. The light is softer, your photos have more dimension, and you’ll still enjoy the beautiful colors afterward.

Can we walk to dinner afterward?

Absolutely. One of the things I love most about downtown Beaufort is how easy it is to celebrate afterward. Several proposal locations are just a short stroll from waterfront restaurants, coffee shops, and ice cream stops.

Parking Tips for Downtown Beaufort

One of the biggest questions I receive is where to park.

During the busier spring and summer months, downtown Beaufort uses seasonal paid parking. While street parking can usually be found along Front Street, I recommend arriving 20–30 minutes early, especially on weekends. Paid parking is easy to navigate through a QR Code on your phone that you can use to add more time if needed.

Some of the easiest places to park include:

  • Queen Street Parking Lot
  • Craven Street Parking Lot
  • Public parking near Grayden Paul Park
  • Front Street public spaces (when available)

Once parked, most proposal locations are only a short walk away.

Celebrate Afterwards with Dinner in Downtown Beaufort

One of my favorite things about proposing in Beaufort is that the celebration doesn’t have to end once you hear “yes.” Several of these locations are just a short walk from some of the best waterfront restaurants, cozy cafΓ©s, and hidden local favorites on the Crystal Coast. If you’re planning the entire evening, I’ve put together a local’s guide to the best places to eat in Beaufort, complete with my favorite brunch spots, waterfront dining, coffee shops, parking tips, and insider recommendations to help you make a full date night out of your proposal.

After all, the perfect proposal isn’t about finding the most beautiful location; it’s about finding the spot that feels like the beginning of your next chapter together.
